How do you change the behavior of an 8 year old boy, who completely ignores you?

My friend has a son, that no matter what, you say to him, will not respond, until you start yelling at him. It could be just a general conversation, or when he is reprimanded. He had his hearing checked, which is normal.How do you change the behavior of an 8 year old boy, who completely ignores you?
I would walk up to him and get his attention. If he looks around you turn off the distraction without confronting any arguing at that time. Then go up to him in a quit voice. IN as few words as possible get your point across and wait for a proper answer. In a complete sentence . When this happens , say thank you for listening. sooner than later he will understand that if he does not respond correctly it will delay his day.How do you change the behavior of an 8 year old boy, who completely ignores you?
If he has had no fallow through on what he is being reprimanded about he has no reason to listen. He as probably also learned to %26quot;listen%26quot; while being yelled at, just to get the person who is yelling to shut up.



I would suggest to your friend that if s/he is going to make threats of say taking something away, grounding, time out, etc that they fallow through to the letter of what they told him. Personally I would take this young man over my lap and warm up his little backside, and see how long he was able to ignore THAT...How do you change the behavior of an 8 year old boy, who completely ignores you?
When he's that age, he knows he's being a jerk by ignoring everyone. He thinks he's winning at something.



Personally I would bend him over my knee and spank his butt a few swats, if yelling at him didn't work. See how often he ignores his parents then.
