Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?

I am adopting a 3 year old cat. Technically, she's already adopted by us, we just can't pick her up yet until Thursday, after she is spayed. Is it true that a lot of times, after a cat has been fixed, their behavior can become more defensive, or aggressive? I know they sometimes feel defenseless when they get their claws removed, but this cat already has her front claws out. She's already pretty laid back and lazy, which is exactly what I wanted, just not too lazy. So do you think that getting her spayed, which is required by the shelter, would affect how she adjusts to our home, compared to one that is not spayed?Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
No it is definitely not true. If anything, spaying your cat will make her quality of life better. No more going into heat and hollering all the time, no uterine cancer when she gets old, etc. The myth that animals' behaviors change after spaying/neutering is just that - a myth. I commend you on the decision to not only adopt, but to spay as well.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
I've never heard of a cat becoming aggressive after being fixed. I've only experienced them being calmer afterwards.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
I have six cats---five are female. ALL are spayed/neutered. I found they got EVEN MORE affectionate after getting spayed! An added benefit--less likely to get many cancers.

Enjoy and love your new pal! Good luck! %26gt;^..^%26lt;Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
she will probably be less aggresive because she won't be coming into heat. I'm sure her mellow personality won't change at all.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
If a spayed cat happens to be defensive, it could be that way because of abuse, lack of socialization, genetics, etc, not because of spaying. They may be a little understandably touchy after surgery, but in the long run, it may even help her adjust to being in your home.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
their behavior does change, but it's almost always temporarily. They just become a bit more defensive because the porcedure can give them quite a fright. (that rhymed lol).. no but seriously, your cat will be back to normal sooner than you think.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
I have 9 cats and some of them were full grown, but unwanted for mostly stupid reasons (wrong color, owners moving, etc.) I didn't spade them right away...some are females and a male. Their behavior didn't change at all except I didn't have to listen to them while they went through their heats.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
I would expect if she is already 3 years old, and on the lazy side, getting her spayed will not make her more active... probably will not be able to tell a difference. Once she is adjusted to your home and comfportable, her temperment should remain same as always. Cats that are really wired, active, aggressive are usually really young, and not fixed. That just the experience I have, I have had 15 cats during my whole life. She is already older than kitten stage... She isnt too old to play and have fun. She should still love to play string, or be intrigued with a brown paper sack on the floor... she should stuill have a lot of fun and be a great kitty for you.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
Cats that are spayed are very affectionate and they are very loving cats. I have a cat that is spayed and she loves to sit in my lap and when I first got her she use to jump up in my arms and hurt me a lot and when I got her spayed it all stopped.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
The only thing I have ever noticed is that the males tend to wander less, fight less and lose the need to spray on everything (though the spraying can continue as a learned behavior). Bot sexes get a little heavier (fatter) then they would if they were not fixed.

The incidence of testicular cancer is dramatically reduced and the spread of infectious diseases is reduced as well, due to less fightingDoes Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
They absolutely do not become deffensive or aggressive from being spayed or nuetred. This involved the removal of organs that emit breeding hormones, thus giving the cat a strong instinct to mate. In a way, a part of the mating instinct is to be deffensive and aggressive if something interferes with their reproducing instinct. Spaying only makes them not care about the importance of breeding, so they can become lazier or have more interest in you as a result.

Any aggression that follows a spay (or declaw for that matter) is probably caused by the cat having a bad experience, either not liking the environment of the vet, or being handled the way it was, etc.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
if it already is agressive or it starts peeing in the house when u get spayed she probably wont be agressive and wont peeDoes Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
Yes, I don't think they are happy at all, hello they can't have no sex.Does Spaying A Cat Change Their Behavior?
She WON'T want to go out as much.Keep her as an indoor cat, especially if she's de-clawed.Have fun with it.
