NYC Poor to Get Cash for Good Behavior ?

NEW YORK (AP) - Poor residents will be rewarded for good behavior - like $300 for doing well on school tests, $150 for holding a job and $200 for visiting the doctor - under an experimental anti-poverty program that city officials detailed Monday.



The rewards have been used in other countries, including Brazil and Mexico, and have drawn widespread praise for changing behavior among the poor. Mayor Michael Bloomberg traveled to Mexico this spring to study the healthy lifestyle payments, also known as conditional cash transfers.



In New York, the two-year pilot program with about 14,000 participants will use private funds Bloomberg has raised because he did not want to spend government money on something that is highly experimental. More than $43 million has been raised toward the $53 million goal, Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs said.

like we do with the homeless give them shelter when the weather is foul out and they will stay in but when the weather permits back out on the streets they go. i believe that this is another way for the do gooders to redistribute wealth and i personellly feel that taking money from one person and just giving it to another is totally wrong. i suppose that what ever organization handleing the payments won't be able to ask if they have kids in school in order to recieve the money for teacher meetings. will this be run like the welfare bureau is today with not enough help so that i can sign up from california and have them mail my checks to a mail box ect. and have them forward the checks to me. instead of throwing money at the problems that our government has created we should start by repealing the minimum wage and let the free market set the wages. people are so used to going to our emergeny rooms that paying them to see a doctor is almost laughable. why wait weeks to get in to see a doctor when you can be treated the same day at the emergency room. i guess it might put the abortion industry in new york city out of buisness more kids more money for teacher confrences. this is a real cesspole that they are trying to create and if it works then it will be put on the tax roll of the city and bloomburg just loves to raise taxes doesn't he? mr doodlesNYC Poor to Get Cash for Good Behavior ?
