I am 37 and just diagnosed for ADHD. I've always been somewhat %26quot;anti-medication%26quot; before, and I just can't understand how these meds are going to change behavior or make me feel. Can anyone explain how they help/how you feel when you take the meds?How do add medications make you feel?

I spent the better part of my youth being medicated for ADHD and I have to say it made me very depressed. My motivation was drained, I felt like I was wierd for having to take medication, and that people only wanted me to take it because they didn't like my real personality. I myself am no anti-medication and while I may bounce off the walls every now and then I am a carefree happy person, and thats where i want to be.

At your age i would say don't take the medication unless you really believe your ADHD is preventing you from doing you day to day duties. If you made it to 37 without any real problems with it, then I would say it is just a waste of your money and your insurance companies money.How do add medications make you feel?

I really don't know too much of the science behind all the meds and some they simply don't really understand why they work just that they do and are able to come up with a theory.



When I'm on them I feel better, a bit like when I drink I feel a certain way or smoke a cigarette. They act on certain parts of the brain and where ever else providing a relief from the troubles hopefully leading to remission permanently or usually as long as you are on the drug.



You should really start reading up on all the meds for now to put your mind at ease.



You'd take an aspirin for pain relief or anti cancer drugs should you need them so best accept that it may be the only way and accupuncture and mind over matter just don't cut it. Face being sick and toss a tablet at it.How do add medications make you feel?
You may have been on the wrong meds. They dont take away your personality, they just stop the annoying racing thoughts and inability to pay attention in ADHD. The depression is a common sign that you are on the wrong medication. Its a side effect of drugs that needs to be reported so your meds can be changed.
